Here is something most people with chronic health problems are never told.
Your immune system is listening to your nervous system all day long.
If the nervous system is stuck in stress mode, the body struggles to regulate inflammation, repair tissues, and restore balance.
That matters a lot if you are dealing with conditions like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, autoimmune disorders, anxiety, or chronic fatigue.
Because when the nervous system stays in fight or flight, healing becomes much harder.
This is why I now offer 1:1 nervous system regulation sessions using Emotional Freedom Techniques.
And yes, I use these techniques myself to regulate my own nervous system.
Your nervous system has two main gears.
Fight or flight
This is the sympathetic nervous system. It prepares you for danger.
Heart rate goes up. Cortisol rises. Blood flow moves away from digestion. The immune system becomes more reactive.
Great if a tiger is chasing you.
Not so great if this state becomes your normal baseline.
Then there is the other gear.
Rest and repair
This is the parasympathetic nervous system.
When this system is active, the body can:
• digest food properly
• repair tissues
• regulate immune responses
• reduce inflammation
• restore energy
This is the state where healing happens.
The problem is that modern life keeps many people stuck in the opposite state.
Emails. Deadlines. Worry. Chronic illness. Lack of sleep.
The body never fully switches out of stress mode.
Scientists now understand that the nervous system is deeply involved in controlling inflammation.
One of the most important pathways is the vagus nerve.
This nerve connects the brain to many organs, including the gut.
It forms part of what researchers call the inflammatory reflex.
The nervous system has built-in anti inflammatory circuits.
When those circuits work well, they help keep inflammation under control.
When they are disrupted, inflammatory diseases can spiral.
This has been observed in autoimmune diseases and inflammatory bowel disease.
The gut also contains its own neural network called the enteric nervous system, sometimes called the body's “second brain”.
This system communicates directly with immune cells and helps regulate intestinal inflammation.
Emotional Freedom Techniques, often called tapping, is a simple but powerful nervous system regulation tool.
It combines elements of:
• exposure therapy
• cognitive therapy
• acupressure stimulation
During a session, gentle tapping is applied to acupuncture points while focusing on specific emotional stress patterns.
This combination appears to calm stress circuits in the brain and help the nervous system shift into a more parasympathetic state.
In simple terms, it helps the body move from fight or flight into rest and repair.
EFT is not just a wellness trend.
Research has found measurable biological effects.
Studies have shown:
• significant reductions in cortisol
• improvements in anxiety and depression
• changes in gene expression linked to immune function
• improvements in stress physiology
In one randomized trial, cortisol levels dropped by about 24 percent after EFT sessions, alongside significant improvements in emotional distress.
When the nervous system calms down, the body often follows.
Chronic stress signalling can drive inflammatory pathways in several ways.
It can:
• increase inflammatory cytokines
• impair gut barrier function
• worsen immune dysregulation
• make autoimmune flares more likely
This does not mean symptoms are psychological.
It means the neuro-immune system is deeply interconnected.
When the nervous system shifts into parasympathetic regulation, the body often becomes better able to restore balance.
For many people with inflammatory disorders, nervous system dysregulation becomes a hidden factor keeping symptoms stuck.
Learning how to regulate that system can be an important missing piece.
Our sessions focus on gently identifying and releasing stress patterns that keep your nervous system activated.
We use EFT tapping to guide the nervous system toward a calmer and more regulated state.
People often find sessions helpful for:
• chronic stress
• anxiety
• trauma patterns
• sleep problems
• emotional overwhelm
• frustration or fear around health
As the nervous system settles, many people also notice changes in physical symptoms.
For a limited time, I am offering introductory EFT sessions at £90.
Session length: 45 minutes
Because nervous system regulation takes time to build, I recommend a minimum of four sessions.
Think of it as training your nervous system to return to a calmer baseline.
